Awww Shucks

First thanks for all the kind words and thoughts, to those of you who pointed and laughed, may you be forced to endure a eternity of Family Matters reruns.

Quite a few people have asked how much of my movement is limited and what exactly can I do with this type of injury.

Well there is a difference in what I feel I can do and what I know I shouldn't do;) That being said the pain with having strain in your abdominals is it truly is the core area of all movements.

Pull ups-Not Happening
Squats-Not Happening

In general compound movements, not happening.

This leaves general activity and isolation movements. Basically I am going to do what I can to maintain muscle through isolation and rehab work and keep up my caloric burn with light elliptical work and incline walking.

Since my activity is going to be really low I am obviously going to have to cut back in calories some and focus on getting a solid amount of nutrients and clean foods to speed repair.

Lots of Fish, Veggies, and Fruits.

You know I can't let this opportunity go to waste, so expect a nice program to be posted in case any of you find yourselves in this position while still striving towards a goal.

You Patrica are Guilty of Second Degree Murder to My Abs

So the results are in folks...well let me recap.

Meet "Patrica" (totally her real name but pretending its her fake name).
Not this...

but this...

Proceed to tackle me like this...

The final verdict of this crash is...

Severe 2nd Degree Abdominal Strain

I am actually surprised it is as severe as it is because while my movement is limited I didn't feel it was to that degree but PT says 100% no big movements and strain for at least 4-6 weeks, better if I wait 6-8.

So the question is now what do I do?! Obviously H.E.L.L. is a bit out of the picture. Still fat and have to get that off but can't move much. Looks like I am going to have to do what I can with diet and recovery work.

Meaning we are going to turn a negative into a positive!

Far to often people let things take them out of the game, well maybe this slows my game down, but I am not out. NO EXCUSES, you have a goal you charge at it. That doesn't mean i will be stupid and hurt myself, no I will rest and care for myself well. However I don't have to roll over and take being a fatty, I will do what I can with diet and light activity.

So let the next phase begin. No excuses.

Even the Pro's need help sometimes

I got a inquiry today from a fitness professional asking for program help for themselves. Now they know this is going to be posted and we are keeping identity secret of course but this raises a good point. Sometimes we need to step away from something that we are so close too.

Can they design a program for themselves? Without doubt and good ones too.
Can they set up a diet for themselves? They have no problem with this.
Are they a superhero and know it all? It's annoying really.

Then why on earth are they coming to me for help on getting some fat off? Because we all need accountability, we all need to step away sometimes and get an outside look, we all need help sometimes.

Don't be afraid to ask for help, even if you do know it all, remember two heads are often better than one.

I'm back and I come with gifts...

Gift #1-This is a gift to myself, I get at least 3 days off training because of my side, seems I did a little more damage then thought. Have to get some x-rays done so I won't know for a fact until then. I will lose the fat, bed ridden or not!

Gift#2-For those of you who may have missed the live interview you can catch a replay and download it here. The Fitness Truth with Zach Hunt and AJ Roberts

I had a great time talking with Zach and AJ and hope to do it again sometime.

Gift#3-I am going to be updating my site to where newsletters will now be available to all! Apparently I am being selfish. That doesn't mean my mailing list won't still get special treats, in fact you have your own gift coming. It could have something to do with this special program down below.

That is all for now, expect much more over the next couple of days, lot's of changes happening!

Dear Leigh, My Friends Suck.

Signed,
Frustrated in Seattle.

Dear Frustrated,

Let me paint you a picture.

It's Monday morning, you have just fired up the engine on your "everything is going to change on Monday" train.

You have the packed lunch, you laid out your days of meal plans and you brought your change of shoes to take with you at the gym after work.

Everything is as it should be.

Your "best work friend" Sandy pops her head over and asks you to come a grab lunch with her.

You decline, tell her that you are really trying to stay on track with your program. She makes some "nice" comments about how you should enjoy life and that you look beautiful just as you are...how sweet of her!

After all the two of you are roughly the same size really, if she is comfortable with herself, then you should be as well.

Still you stick to your guns and eat your planned lunch.

Now there is a little tension between you and Sandy. It's making you pretty stressed out really. What you usually do when stressed out is eat, but you can't do that.

At least you are sticking to your plan though.

A few days go by and Sandy brings over a couple of pieces of candy to try. It's small, nothing to crazy so you have a few, I mean really how many calories do a tootsie roll have (each one is 25 calories, you could have half a cup of broccoli for that.).

So you have 4 tootsie rolls and a laugh with your friend Sandy. Within a few days everything is back as it should be.

You and Sandy are having fun, eating smart choices and healthy meals (just too much of them) and you feel like it just needs to be baby steps for you.

Let's sum up what really happened here.

-Sandy doesn't want to see herself as fat. She doesn't want to see that she needs to make a change.

-You making a change reminds her of that and pisses her off. If you think there is something wrong with you, there must be something wrong with her.

-You allowed someone who doesn't deserve your friendship in the first place to guilt you into feeling bad about healthy choices you made.

-You used your sucky friend as a crutch to not stick to your program, ultimately it was your decision, ultimately it was your choice.

What to do next time?

Invite Sandy to join you, if that doesn't work then here is the best advice you may ever get...

DON'T TALK ABOUT IT!

Don't complain, don't bring up your diet, how you miss "real food", how hungry you are. It gives a chance for your insecure friends to bait you and your friends that do care to want to help you.

We don't want to see our friends suffer, we also get tired of hearing them complain.

Choose one forum be it a diary, one friend, the internet, whatever to voice your concerns, fears, questions, etc.

Other than that, keep it to yourself and then your friends will one day just notice how great you look and ask you for help instead of try to sabotage you.

Need some more common sense advice like this? Looking to simplify
fat loss and how to live it in the world?

Local fitness "know it all" messes it up for themselves...

You know who you are, you are the fitness know it all.

Allow me to introduce you to yourself.

Since the beginning of your journey (usually fat loss) you have prided yourself on never hiring a trainer because you can research it all just fine on your own.

You made your programs all your own, more than likely because you were too A.D.D. to stick to one program long enough to let it work.

You designed your own meal plans, most likely lower carb because that water weight (even though you know it was water weight because you know that) just makes you feel good to have it off.

You have been doing this for years and understand everything about hormones and thyroid problems, allergies and intolerances, digestive disorders and probotics. The reason being because you have all of these problems and more, even though a doctor has told you otherwise, you know this because you know it all!

Years go by and you can tell any and everyone how to change their body and get it exactly where they want it to be and how you don't need anybody because you know it all!

Well know it all...

Why is it your body is never where it should be?
Why are you so unhappy with your performance?
Why are you so tired, fatigued and taking supplements for adrenal fatigue?
If you know it all, why don't you just fix it already?

Okay okay, I am not being harsh here, really I am not, there is a point.

LET PEOPLE HELP YOU!

If what you have been doing isn't working, stop doing it and allow someone else to step in. Be open to new ideas, don't be scared of change, allow enough time for something to work!

Always remember that sometimes others can see in ourselves what we can't. Take Webmd off of your favorites list and stop doing it to yourself.

Sometimes you can over educate yourself into making things worse and worse. So if this sounds like you, put down the book and either learn to love and accept yourself for who you are or let someone help you.

Update 2: Day 15 of H.E.L.L. Fat Loss Program

Today is the first day I didn't comply exactly to my program due to getting the crapped slammed out of me. So I took a rest mobility day. Other than that I have nothing but positive things to support.

Stats* Not listing stats today because I am bloated, sore and beaten. I didn't even bother checking. I can say that my previous stats though suggest I am down a good amount and general clothes fitting and performance is improving.

Aerobic Drills-Man these are a pain, literally. I was sore pretty much three days after the first round of them. Have done them 3 times now and the last time had a dramatic increase in drill movements. During the course of the whole drill I was most impressed with the burpee jacks. Went from a measly 67 to 102. Thats an excellent increase in only 3 rounds of trying. Let's not neglect though that other aerobic work involved in this program. This coming from someone who has always been pretty crappy in the aerobic/muscle endurance area, thats pretty good for me. I have always in general focused more on my brute strength and quick speed.

Strength Increase-Have made some nice increases as well in my high rep lifting endurance. Moved my deadlifts up quite nicely and those damn front squats.

Overall happy, strong, and losing well.

Now excuse me while I go ice myself.

This is what happens when good girls go tackle

So your beloved fitness professional gets a unplanned day off today. Well day off from outside training. Yesterday I took part in a very fun friendly game of some touch football. It quickly turned into "lets see how hard we can tackle without it being called tackling". It was a blast, but amidst it all I got hit just the right or wrong way and ended up down for the count.

This pretty much was me...

Minus the pigtails.

Needless to say I got fun pain I am working with right now that has put me on rest bed or rest desk for the day. So you online peeps take advantage of bugging me today, I hate being out of commission.

I am going to give a good H.E.L.L update later.
