I had an early morning client cancel so instead of going back to sleep I decided to wind back down with some emails. I got this email and I wanted to post the question here and answer it shortly, and later I will answer it much better. I think it is something people should know though, especially women.
Q:Hey Leigh, I was curious my scale went up today from 142 to 150 in just one day! Now I know your weight can fluctuate but what am I doing wrong that it could be 8 pounds?!
This question continued on with some other information but the basic point, the frequently asked question is...
How much weight can you gain in one day?
A:Well first there is the weight of your food. Eat 5 meals at least at .75 pounds a piece thats 3.75 pounds. I can say that some of my meals go WAY higher than that. I get in a pound meal here or there in one day with my veggies.
How about fluid? how about 5 12 ounce bottles of water, 1 diet coke and 2 cups of coffee? That's 5.5 pounds right there.
How about hormonal fluctuations, time of the month, swellings from training, constipation, etc. For the sake of low balling it how about 3-5lbs for miscellaneous reasonings.
All total on a low ball simple day of good habits you can legitimately gain 10+ pounds in one day.
I will get into it more later and in detail but for now keep that in mind when freaking out about the scale. Look for overall loss over a period of time and look for it in more places than the scale.
